The zine titled ‘Ecofeminism : Manifesto’ is an original work developed to disseminate more broadly, as well as make more accessible and easily shareable the contents of my B.A. Thesis 'Ecofeminist aesthetics in the natural skincare industry: A content analysis of digital communication practices'.

For this creative project, I focused on ecofeminist notions, values, and aesthetics, which are displayed through original text, direct quotes, and visual imagery.

I decided to create a so-called 'zine' - that is, a self-published magazine about a specific topic, which is meant to be shared with others who have similar interests. Zines have always been used as medium of free expression for socially marginalized groups and subcultures. Because ecofeminism is not only a philosophical current, but also a political movement, and some of the main ecofeminist concepts are overthrowing the patriarchy and dismantling capitalism, I deemed this format the most appropriate.

Throughout the zine ‘Ecofeminism : Manifesto’, the incorporated visual content significantly contributes to creating a specific mood. I chose the colour palette specifically to remind of natural tones.

The images appearing in the zine have the solei goal of contributing an atmosphere that evokes ideas and feelings of connection, respect, and care towards the natural environment and other people. On the contrary to theoretical perspectives and principles, ecofeminist aesthetics features are not directly explained, but rather embodied through the design (colours, font, shapes) of the zine itself.

The creative project focuses on ecofeminist notions, values, and aesthetics, which are displayed through original text, direct quotes, and visual imagery. Even though there is no specific reference to the research question or the skincare industry, the core focus of my thesis on feminist and environmental aesthetics and values is clearly represented.

I decided to create a so-called zine, that is, a self-published magazine about a specific topic that is meant to be shared with others who have similar interests. Zines have always been used as medium of free expression for socially marginalized groups and subcultures, i.e., punks. Because ecofeminism is not only a philosophical current, but also a political movement, and some of the main ecofeminist concepts are overthrowing the patriarchy and dismantling capitalism, this format seemed the most appropriate.

Throughout the zine ‘Ecofeminism : Manifesto’, the incorporated visual content significantly contributes to creating a specific mood. The colour palette was chosen specifically to reflect colours of nature (shades of green and brown). The images presented are taken from the sample I used for my study to maintain continuity, although they are not commented on as in my thesis.
